The templates are public. Being read as subsidisable is not. That difference comes down to three things.

The templates are public, but the way evaluators read them is not. Silent dealbreakers, scoring bands and the translation from business story to funding logic are learned over hundreds of dossiers, not from one guideline document.

Capacity
A full dossier is months of disciplined work next to a business that does not pause for it. Most self-written files fail by never being finished, and a founder's hours are worth more in the company than in a template.

Economics
15 to 20% more grant on the same project, at zero financial risk through no cure, no pay. Writing it yourself to save the fee is a false saving.

Anyone can download the VLAIO templates; knowing why an evaluator scores a section GOED instead of REDELIJK comes from writing hundreds of dossiers, not from reading the guidelines once.

VLAIO judges what is on paper, not what you meant; a strong project in a weakly written dossier is still a weakly written dossier, and a resubmission costs you months.

VLAIO funds knowledge build-up and technical risk rather than products, so your story must be translated into the language the evaluator recognises; we make that translation daily.

A full dossier means 30 to 40 pages of project description, an impact document per partner, detailed budget tables, an instruction meeting and often an oral defence; most teams underestimate this by months.

Can I apply for a VLAIO grant myself, without an expert?+

Yes, you can. VLAIO opens the application to every company and the forms are publicly available. The question is not whether you may, but whether it is the most valuable use of your time and whether you get the most out of it. A strong file calls for experience with the assessment logic, with how evaluators read, and with what makes a project eligible — or not.

What does a grant expert deliver, concretely, compared with applying yourself?+

Two things: a higher chance of success and a higher amount awarded. A specialist recognises which activities are eligible, positions the innovation sharply against the state of the art, and avoids the mistakes that sink files. On average, guided files achieve a noticeably higher result — the time you save and the risk you avoid come on top of that.

Does Venture Campus work on a no cure, no pay basis?+

For most files, yes. If the grant is not awarded, you do not pay us; our fee is a percentage of the grant actually awarded. That way our interests are aligned with yours: we are only rewarded when you achieve a result. For a few specific instruments an adjusted formula applies, which we agree with you transparently in advance.

Do I keep control over my own project and narrative as a client?+

Entirely. The project and the narrative stay yours; we translate your innovation into the language and structure the government expects and write the file. You remain the substantive owner and decide. Our role is to maximise your chance of success, not to take over your project.
